Our North Brandon Family YMCA gym looks phenomenal thanks to the Atlanta Tipoff Club (ATOC)! We appreciate their engagement program, which modernized our basketball gym with a refinished gymnasium floor, replaced glass backboards and wall pads, as well as applied fresh paint! A ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 1, 2025, saw Tampa YMCA and ATOC leaders come together along with District 4 Commissioner Christine Miller.

The Atlanta Tipoff Club is committed to promoting the game of basketball and recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of those who make the game so exciting. The Atlanta Tipoff Club administers the Naismith Awards, the most prestigious national honors in all college and high school basketball.

Eric Oberman, ATOC president, applauded the partnership with the Tampa YMCA, and noted the gym is ATOC’s legacy.

“Thank you to the Tampa YMCA for this incredible partnership. And, to everyone for their generosity in making this a reality. It’s great to see this gym renovated just in time for the excitement of the 2025 NCAA Women’s Final Four,” noted Oberman.

The renovation began in early February this year and has received rave reviews. For Alexander Chuvila,12, the new gym is a treat.

“It’s really awesome! I have loved playing in it ever since they renovated it. It’s a great experience for us,” noted Alexander, who has been playing with his school team there regularly for over two years and wants to play for the Orlando Magic when he grows up.

Donn Aikins, Chair, North Brandon Family YMCA Board, was “super excited for the renovated gym.”

“As a former college athlete, basketball has been very impactful in my life. It’s great to have this opportunity to give back to the local children to play basketball and various sports through a modernized gym. We thank all the partners who came together for this project,” he shared.

Nicole Breed, Executive Director, North Brandon Y noted:

“For 35 years, we have been a vital part of our community, supporting its growth and meeting the needs of our members. We were honored when The Atlanta Tipoff Club selected our Y for one of their annual renovations and are truly grateful to them. We just know this updated look will grow our membership and make our North Brandon YMCA the place to go for basketball!”

Candace Culver, Senior Vice President, Community Partnerships at the Tampa YMCA, echoed similar sentiments.

“The North Brandon basketball gym renovation and dedication event was a huge success and a proud moment for our YMCA community. Seeing the space transformed was truly inspiring. It’s not just a gym; it’s a space where kids will build confidence, teams will grow stronger and families will gather for years to come. We are especially grateful to the Atlanta Tipoff Club and the Naismith Foundation, whose generosity and support made this transformation possible. Their commitment to youth development and community impact shines through in every detail of the renovated space. Thank you again to everyone who helped bring this vision to life.”
