Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA Nears Opening as Excitement Builds in Wesley Chapel
Construction of the new center remains on schedule, and the Tampa YMCA is on track to open its doors this September. With visible progress taking place each week, what was once a dream for Wesley Chapel families is rapidly transforming into one of the premier YMCA facilities in the region. One that will serve thousands of children, adults, seniors and families for generations to come.
Community enthusiasm is already exceeding expectations. The YMCA's onsite membership office is opening soon, and in just the first few days of online presales, more than 100 families have already joined. The early response reflects the excitement and anticipation surrounding a YMCA that will provide expanded opportunities for health, wellness, youth development and community connection throughout the area.
As construction advances, the Tampa YMCA is also assembling an exceptional leadership team to help bring the vision of the Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA to life.
Leading membership efforts is Andi Cornett, as Membership Director. With nearly nine years of YMCA experience, Andi has consistently demonstrated excellence in membership growth, community engagement and operational leadership. Since joining Central City YMCA in 2023, she has increased membership revenue and strengthened partnerships throughout the community while supporting fundraising and program growth. Her experience across membership, youth sports, afterschool programs and summer camps provides a unique understanding of the YMCA experience from every angle.
Joining the leadership team as Wellness Director is Becca Anderson, whose impact at the Bob Sierra Family YMCA has been felt across the association. Since 2023, Becca has expanded wellness programming, increased wellness revenue and helped strengthen group exercise and personal training opportunities. Her passion for healthy living, combined with her leadership initiative, will help create an exceptional wellness experience from day one. Over the coming months, Becca will continue supporting the Bob Sierra wellness team while helping prepare the Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA for opening.
The YMCA also welcomes Michael Loftin as Sports Director. Bringing more than two decades of experience in youth development and athletics through the Polk County School System, Michael understands the powerful role sports play in shaping young lives. His philosophy centers on using athletics as a tool for building confidence, character, teamwork and lifelong success. Under his leadership, the YMCA's sports programs will provide meaningful opportunities for youth and families to grow both on and off the field.
Another addition to the team is Anna Carman, who joins the Tampa YMCA as Family Program Director of the Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA. Anna comes from the YMCA of the Triangle in North Carolina, where she led family engagement, youth development, leadership development and summer camp initiatives. Her background in ministry, education and youth programming brings a unique perspective to strengthening families and creating meaningful experiences for children and teens throughout the community.
The Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA represents much more than a new center. It is a significant investment in the future of Wesley Chapel and surrounding communities. Once open, the facility will expand the Tampa YMCA's ability to provide life-changing programs, health and wellness opportunities, youth development experiences and community gathering spaces that help strengthen the entire community.
With construction progressing on schedule, memberships already being secured and a talented team in place, the countdown to opening day has officially begun.
This September, the Tampa YMCA looks forward to welcoming members, volunteers, donors and community partners through the doors of the Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA and beginning an exciting new chapter of service to Wesley Chapel.
